  • A SURVEY OF ATTITUDES OF SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS TOWARDS AGRICULTURAL SCIENCE

    The study investigated the factors that influence students' attitudes toward Agricultural Science. A random sampling procedure was used to select ten male and ten female SS1 agricultural science students from each of the ten secondary schools involved in the study. A thirty- two item four - point Liker-scale questionnaire was used to collect the relevant data.

  • BIOSORPTION OF HEAVY METALS USING CRAB SHELL IN AQUEOUS MEDIUM

    The biosorption of some heavy metals found in effluents of a boat manufacturing company and oil waste water of two oil exploration companies in Brass and Port Harcourt terminals were carried out using crab shell of particle size 0.25-0.8mm. The concentration (mg/l) of the heavy metals found in the effluents were analyzed using Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer, model 6650.

  • DETERMINATION OF SOME HEAVY METALS IN MINED-PONDS FISH IN BUKURU AREA OF PLATEAU STATE I

    Some heavy metals in mined-ponds fish of Bukuru, Jos-South Local Government Area of Plateau State were studied using Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (AAS). The fish used were tilapia (Oreochromis nilotica) and cat fish (Clarias Lazera). The metals investigated were Pb, Cd, Cr, Ni and Fe.

    A study of the water contact pattern of schistosomiasis in Agbor was carried out from November to October 2010 to determine the water contact pattern and rate of contact, the observation covered a total of 43,200 during which primary water contact activates involving 624 exposures for a total of 9,541 minutes were recorded.

  • ALTERNATIVE MODELS INVOLVING MULTIPLE VARIABLES FOR PARTIAL CORRELATION ANALYSES AND THEIR APPLICATIONS

    This paper aims at providing various ways of alternating variables so that the number of variables held constant produces the same number of alternative models whose computations give the same result for a particular partial correlation coefficient. Significantly, the numerical verification carried out to show the validity of the alternative models has shown that, in a multiple variable case, there is no one way solution to obtaining a partial correlation coefficient, when the floating effects of others are under control.

    The phenomenon of adolescent pregnancy has attracted series of academic and non academic works from various scholars, particularly in the recent time. The magnitude of attention drawn to the preceding social issue is closely related to stigmatization attached to the position. While enormous literature focused on the nature and consequence of risky sexual behavior in adolescents, few works have engaged the discourse of the coping strategies adopted to live out of the pregnancy experience. Against this backdrop, the study was premised on the method adopted by pregnant adolescents and kid mothers to manage stigmatization problem associated with their social position.

  • FAULT PATTERNS WITHIN PART OF BORNU BASIN, NORTH-EASTERN NIGERIA, USING SEISMIC DATA

    Two seismic base maps were first merged into a single map. It was from this single seismic base map that analysis was made. Three horizons and six faults were mapped. The study area lies within the North-east end of Nigeria between latitude 120 19/ N and longitude 130 14/ E and 130 25/ E. The thrust of this work was to identify major faults and its patterns displayed in the seismic section.

  • ANALYZING THE EFFECTIVENESS OF REVENUE AND EXPENDITURE ON PRICES AND GROSS DOMESTIC PRODUCT IN NIGERIA: A VAR METHOD

    As the global economy meltdown continuous, there is the need for thorough investigation into Nigerian economy. This study investigates and measures the relative impact of revenue and expenditure on prices and output growth in Nigeria using annual data from 1970 to 2010. A Vector Autoregression (VAR) method was used. Through impulse response and variance decomposition the dynamic interrelationship among the variables has been captured.

  • THE INFLUENCE OF GENDER AND MORAL COMPETENCY ON SAFE-SEX PRACTICES AMONG UNIVERSITY UNDERGRADUATES IN ADO-EKITI

    This study examined the influence of gender and moral competency on the safe-sex behaviour of youths in Nigeria. Using an ex-post-facto design, data were collected from a total of 440 participants. Results of the Analysis of Variance provided support for the main effect of moral competency on safe-sex behaviour among young Nigerians[F (1, 439) = 1368.81; P <. 05]. Further, results also revealed an interaction effect of sex and moral competency on attitude towards safe sex practice among undergraduate students[F (1, 439) = 8.24; P <. 05].

  • OPTIMIZATION OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEM) AS A STRATEGY FOR ACHIEVING BUSINESS OBJECTIVES AND COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE: A FOCUS ON UNITY RANK PLC AWKA

    This study investigates the optimizations of Information Technology in service industries in Awka Anambra State. Unity Bank Plc Awka branch was used as a focus of the study. Three hypotheses were formulated and tested to guide the research work. The study reveals that information technology increases performance and productivity and equally aid in achieving organizational strategic objectives, competitive advantage and accurate, sufficient and up to dole information are generated through the use of information technology which also improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the organization.

  • CHALLENGES OF ATTITUDINAL CHANGE ON CORPORATE GOVERNANCE IN AN ORGANIZATION: A FOCUS OF BANK INDUSTRIES IN AWKA, ANAMBRA STATE NIGERIA

    This paper analyzed the challenges faced by organizations in attitudinal change to corporate governance especially bank industries. Five banks in Awka, Anambra State was studied using the primary and secondary sources of data. The data was analyzed with percentage and chi-square method of analysis. The results reveals that both the attitudes of board of directors, shareholders, employees and customers affect the implementation of the corporate governance in bank industries.
